Chinese markets settle mixed
Chinese equity markets had mixed results on Thursday. The Shanghai Composite Index rose by 0.57% to finish at 3,900.4, bolstered by strong buying in gold mining stocks. On the other hand, the Shenzhen Component Index fell by 0.24% to 14,110.1, influenced by a drop in technology shares.
Gold mining companies saw gains as gold prices increased due to a weaker US dollar and lower US Treasury yields, along with reduced geopolitical tensions following an Iran-Oman shipping route agreement. Conversely, technology stocks experienced profit booking, particularly in artificial intelligence and semiconductor sectors, causing declines among major companies in these areas.
