India's defence exports reach record high in FY 2025'26

India's defence exports have reached an all-time high of Rs 38,424 crore in the financial year 2025'26, registering a significant increase of Rs 14,802 crore (62.66%) compared to Rs 23,622 crore in the previous year.

Both Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and private companies contributed to this growth, with DPSUs accounting for 54.84% and the private sector contributing 45.16%. In value terms, DPSUs exported defence equipment worth Rs 21,071 crore, while private firms contributed Rs 17,353 crore. In FY 2024'25, these figures were Rs 8,389 crore for DPSUs and Rs 15,233 crore for private players.

Exports by DPSUs saw a sharp rise of 151% over the previous year, while private sector exports grew by 14%, reflecting steady participation from industry players.

Overall, defence exports have nearly tripled over the past five years, highlighting India's growing presence in the global defence market. Indian defence products are now being exported to more than 80 countries, showing wider international acceptance.

The number of defence exporters has also increased from 128 to 145, marking a growth of 13.3% compared to the previous year.

This strong performance is supported by government efforts to improve ease of doing business and promote exports. The Department of Defence Production has introduced a revamped online portal and simplified procedures to make export authorisations faster and more efficient, helping Indian companies compete globally.
