U.S. stocks see their worst decline in three months

US equities registered their most significant single-day decline in three months amid concerns surrounding persistent inflationary pressures. The S&P 500 retreated 1.1 percent, marking a fifth consecutive loss in six sessions following its record high. The Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased by 48 points, a 0.1 percent decline, while the Nasdaq composite plunged 1.9 percent, as shares in the artificial-intelligence sector spearheaded the downward trend. Equities were sensitive to the ascent of bond yields, as anxieties mounted following a report indicating that U.S. consumers faced 3.7 percent higher overall costs for fuel, food, and other essential expenses compared to a year earlier. This represents an acceleration from the 3.4 percent rate observed in August and the highest surge in five months.
